On August 1, 2012, two men landed in a small plane in Haines, Alaska. Having already completed an 1,800 mile trip from Seattle to Skagway, Alaska, Paul Hutzler and his new riding partner Keith Graham now set their sights on a destination 1,200 miles north-- the Arctic Ocean.

The first leg of the 2012 journey took the two adventurers 650 miles from Haines through British Columbia and the Yukon Territory before arriving in Fairbanks, Alaska in a cold, slushy rain.

The second leg of the adventure took the two men 500 miles farther north to Prudhoe Bay. No one had ever attempted to drive the Dalton Highway on a 59cc motorbike.

There was much uncertainty as to whether they would reach the Arctic. Too many unknowns existed. The moped adventurers had to survive big rigs, the threat of wildlife, some of the steepest grades in Alaska, and a 240 miles stretch without gas stations. The story of the Arctic Ocean moped adventure follows.
